Day 3 - Simon

GROUNDWORK REVIEW

Today I reviewed all the basic cues (left, right, forward and backward) with which I worked with Simon on Day One.  At the beginning of the lesson, his first instinct was to sit back and not come forward off of halter pressure behind his ears.  Even so, it only took a few reminders before he was stepping forward into a trot when asked to come forward.  He remembered lateral away cues and did very little stepping toward me with his shoulder.  He is following left and right direct rein signals and is stopping easily.  I don't have a round pen set up, but Simon wasn't even thinking about pulling, so it wasn't a problem to work him out in the open field.

Next lesson, if Simon is responding the same to all the basic cues, I should be introducing him to the field behind the house and the cows.
